This product does not come with instructions, so be sure to install so the lever end is below the fulcrum for it to snap closed.I used it to secure the swing out tire carrier on my Jeep. Works awesome.

Needed to grind some off to make it work correctly
I found that this latch relied on going 'beyond halfway' in order to stay securely closed. I actually had to grind quite a lot of steel off for the closing action pressure to 'pulling closed' instead of just shut and popping open with the smallest vibration. Works well now though.

Good quality and value. Was what I needed in a very reasonable time.

Good quality, but not for use on automotive/motorized applications.
While the latch is rated for 1,000 lbs or whatever, it only will hold shut if you use it on a static application. I used these latches to hold a trailer door shut and the forces were far less than the rated capacity, but they always open up under vibration on the road. Totally useless under my application, but the latch itself seems to be good quality if you use it on something that stays still.

Bad design do not recommend
This latch is made of heavy metal but is not angled properly to secure. The latch is angled at less than 90° causing it to pull itself open easily. If you attach as another user wrote to anything that moves it will come unlatched. I modified mine with a grinder and now it is much better but I do not recommend it if you are not mechanically inclined or don't have a grinder handy. I will also be attaching a pin to mine to secure it properly. I do not recommend this purchase.

Very disappointing, and not at all as advertised.
Does not work unless u-bolt is oriented <90° to the latch, and since there is no mechanism (despite being advised as "auto locking") to secure the latch handle this will not stay locked when attempting to draw two pieces together. Very disappointing, and not at all as advertised.
